Franje Arendal 2012

Franje will visit Arendal for the second time this year. The main venue will be Kilden, but artists will also pop up at various locations in town. Look out for them in the streets and be prepared for surprise performances, exhibitions, film screenings etc at any time any place! This website will update regularly in the week before the festival, adding more information about artists and performances.

Festival FRANJE will open with a sequence of short performances by various artists.

Kari Moland (female, born in 1986 in Arendal), studied at Bårdar Akademiet for one year, then went to The Norwegian College of Dance from 2006 to 2009. Moland has been working at a high school of performing arts in Tvedestrand, but currently works in Oslo with minor dance projects and at a private ballet school teaching children from 10 years up to 17 years of age. The dancers are studying dance at Bårdar Akademiet in Oslo, Norway, and they are originally from Arendal and Tvedestrand, where they were dancing at DDD Dansestudio. Kjetil-André Ward (male, born in 1992, going to be a 2nd year student), Elisabeth Scheen (female, born in 1991, going to be a 3rd year student) and Marit Alma Aaby Hirsch (female, born in 1992, going to be a 2nd year student).

Dan Aleksander Andersen (1982) er forlagsredaktør og forfatter. Han debuterte med diktsamlingen Evighetsarbeid i 2010, og til høsten kommer hans andre bok Krise i Jammerdarn. Krise i Jammerdarn er ei serie klager og vitnesbyrd, ført i forloren penn a Dan Andersen (den tarveligste a alle Jammerdøler) og handler om kjøttets nådeløse kamp for å forenes med det himmelske og salige. Det handler om de burleske, folkelige historiene og drømmene som gjør oss te de vakre og uverdige menneskene vi er.

Gjennom fortellinger og skrøner følger vi de forunderlige menneskene som lever på en liten øy over en periode på åtte hundre år, gjennom fødsel og død, tro, hat og kjærlighet. For riket er ditt er Birger Emanuelsens debutbok, og kommer ut på Tiden Norsk Forlag i august i år. Boka er en samling enkeltstående fortellinger. Leseren møter et overskudd av personer og hendelser, raust vevet sammen med en kombinasjon av humor og alvor, og av en forfatter som griper fortellerkunsten med begge nevene.

A visual partiture

Bubbles is a video score for musicians. The musical element is based on the repetitive pattern and fragile shape of bubbles. Music played by Martin Taxt - microtonal tuba.

The Jukebus is a mobile music stage in a three wheeled electric vehicle. It will pop up at various places in town.

A large scale rescue operation of lost rubber ducklings is set up all over Arendal. Keep your eyes open for them, they tend to pop up in the most unexpected places.

Timemachine, amongst other inventions consists of a small set of installations that investigate the need for useless inventions in modern times.

Artist collective De Spullenmannen make theatre, visual art, installations and purposeless contraptions.

Children 3+ are able to compose a little melody with a playful digital music machine. A squirrel lives inside a tree trunk, help him play music by adding magical notes via his fantasy world in the tree trunk!

Moss slowly overtakes the building of Kilden, growing out of the cracks in the walls, following the window panes.

From a mobile Art Dispenser you can buy various works of art for only three euro's. Just throw in a coin, open a drawer and you receive your package of art.

Several of the artists from Franje will present a potpourri of small excerpts from some of the performances that have been presented during the week and some new things. Short 3-5 min. pieces of stage performances. In the Black Box at Kilden on Saturday evening.
