Franje Arendal 2013

Franje Arendal will see it's third edition take place during Canalstreet this year. The main venue will be Kilden, but artists will also pop up at various locations in town. Look out for them in the streets and be prepared for surprise performances, exhibitions, film screenings etc at any time any place! This website will update regularly in the week before the festival, adding more information about artists and performances.

The reporters of The Daily Issue seem to have come from the '50s and suddenly woken up in 2013 with their mimeograph. They have 3 hours to find out what's going on in the world. The result will be printed on the spot, and handed out to the audience. Whatever is going on, the reporters of The Daily Issue will cover it. But they have some serious handicaps: they have to do without internet or telephone, so you are their only source of information. If all fails, you know how it happened.

A rather different modern dance performance about the three forest nymphs who all wanted to be the most loved, most beautiful, most desired, most admired and - most of all - they wanted to find love. Except they didn't. And so they returned to the forest and dug themselves deep into the dead leaves, soil, bitterness, tears and lost desires. Still, they would not let go of their pride and honour and so they carry it as a heavy crown on their heads - weighing them down holding them bound to the ground. There they have been lying, waiting. In that curious meeting between the still and everfalling, the patiant and forcefull. And if I put my body and mind in to this, will I disrupt, blend in to or enhance it? We meet in the fountain.

Having being fascinated by clothing pieces from different time-periods for some years now, "Fastnad/Stuck" is an improvisational study of the crinoline as an inspiration for movement. In the extreme these pieces of clothing combined with the corset made moving practically impossible for its wearers. How can you move when you are stuck inside a steel-crinoline?

" A mineral, a crystal, found in many shapes and colors. The raw material and the unorganic surface stands as a contrast to life and the organic. The eye for aesthetics, thoughts of surviving, adapting to and getting to know the unknown." The project is a collaboration between dance performer Katarina Skår Henriksen and costume designer Rufus Backman Ossandon. A Canalstreet ticket is needed to enter Knubben.

A classic caravan (Fokker, 1965) has had a proper makeover and now serves as a mobile stage. With a vintage lamp and a small painting at the wall. At this stage there is this wonderful group of musicians that is looking for the groove. Always with a happy ending.

This interactive installation challenges you to create a resilient network, by trial and error you discover what that means. It's a metaphor for how we can make systems like our energy production and food distribution more resilient and thus more sustainable.

An interactive installation that explains how evolution works. You can put down islands on a table that is projected on to change the environment of the bugs that live there. This influences the way the bugs mate and how they are predated on, in other words: how they evolve.

Though Outside in is there debut as directors they both have long experience within their fields of expertise, Tove as a dancer and choreographer and Petrus as a film photographer.

A(r)men is a absurd story from the characters Arnes life. He work at a factory and get involved in an accident which destroy his left arm. But the time of wonders still exist, a new arm grow out and give him a total new life. But his new left arm, got a will of his own, this will change the life of Arne.

Experimental short film. improvised and shot at a closed down insane asylum featuring Norwegian cult artist Jan Devik.

The author of the novel "Det ville østen", that received outstanding reviews, will talk about her travels to the far corner of Siberia, Altay, trying to trace an old Siberian boxing-champion - on the way, she encounters a number of strange people, and experience the full range of thinkable and unthinkable absurdities. Will show slides, and read several passages from the book. Question-round in the end

Several of the artists from Franje will present a potpourri of small excerpts from some of the performances that have been presented during the week and some new things. Short 3-5 min. pieces of stage performances. In the Black Box at Kilden on Saturday evening.
